When I think of angelic food, my mind goes to angel-food cake and ambrosia, that whipped-cream-based, marshmallow-laden fruit salad from my youth. Do you know what angels actually show up with when feeding people in the Bible? Barley cakes and water. Now, I know if I were starving in the desert, I would probably prefer barley cakes and water to angel-food cake, but still. Seriously though, this passage tells me that angels can physically manifest food and water or at least manifest themselves long enough to cook/and or transport food and water to a specific, earthly location.
I Kings 19:58
Then as Elijah lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” Then Elijah looked and there by his head was a cake baked on coals and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again. And the angel of the Lord came back the second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat because the journey is too great for you.” So Elijah arose and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb (Sinai), the mountain of God.
